  Filed under: Projects

The goal of the Streetscape Enhancement project is to improve the attractiveness of Pittston’s commercial center while enhancing vehicular and pedestrian safety. Ease of access with an “old town” friendly atmosphere to entice consumers to the Downtown Districts.

The project encompasses Main Street from the Fort Jenkins Bridge  south to Market Street, together with the first blocks of William Street, Broad Street and Water Street on each side of Main Street. Also included was the intersection of Swallow St. and Main St.

The project includes the following items:

Replacement of existing street lighting with vintage lamps accommodating banners and street signage;

Placement of wiring underground;

Construction of new concrete sidewalks with formed lined brick pavers at crosswalks and tree lawn areas.

Placement of new landscaping, including street trees, planters, and benches.

Improvement of the pedestrian connections from Main Street to the Riverfront Park, constructing improved concrete sidewalks and using formed lined concrete to define crosswalks at Kennedy Boulevard.

Coordination with PennDOT regarding the use of vintage poles for traffic signal support and intersection lighting.

Building demolition at Main and Williams Sts.

Construction of several widened sidewalk bump-out areas to facilitate vehicle speed reduction and side street sight distance improvements.
